Ella O’Neill is increasingly in demand across the UK and Europe as a collaborative pianist specialising in song. She was the winner of the 2024 RPS Gerald Moore Award for outstanding piano accompanists, the Accompanist’s Prize at the 2019 Kathleen Ferrier Awards and Second Pianist Prize at the inaugural Rebecca Clarke Song Competition 2026. 2024 saw the release of the Ella's debut album - Awakenings - with regular duo partner, tenor Laurence Kilsby, co-produced by Deutsche Grammophon, Avi Music and SWR Kultur. The album was longlisted for a Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik (German Record Critics' Award) as one of seven albums in the 'Lieder and Vocal Recital' category, and described in the American Record Guide as 'one of the most imaginative and thought-provoking song programs [I've] heard'.
Recital venues for Ella have included Wigmore Hall, LIFE Victoria Barcelona, Fundación Juan March Madrid, Heidelberger Frühling, Carnegie Hall’s Zankl and Weill Recital Halls as a SongStudio artist, Snape Maltings, Cadogan Hall, the Royal Opera House Crush Room, Opera Holland Park, Oxford International Song, Leeds Lieder and Brighton Festival, as well as regular appearances on BBC Radio 3 InTune. This May, she makes her debut at the Théâtre de l'Athénée in Paris.
Away from the concert platform, Ella works as a vocal coach both privately and as a visiting professor at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She is a staff pianist at the Royal College of Music, Samling Institute for Young Artists and Oxenfoord International Summer School. She also enjoys a long-standing professional relationship with voice teacher Rosa Mannion, which has enabled her to develop a thorough understanding of vocal technique and how best to support singers as a coach. As a répétiteur, Ella has worked with companies including Grange Park Opera, English Touring Opera and the Tête à Tête Festival.
Ella is a graduate of the RCM, where she studied predominantly with Simon Lepper, alongside Kathron Sturrock and Roger Vignoles. Prior to that, she studied as an undergraduate at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
